A huge part of staying healthy relies on your mental state. Whilst physical health may be important to maintain for a lot of people, you’re not fully healthy if your mind isn’t too. Anxiety can be one of those feelings that prevent you from living out your health and fitness lifestyle, and whilst it may not be one of the easiest things to deal with - there are methods and practices you can use to help reduce it. In this blog, I’ll be going through some of these tips.

What is anxiety?

“Anxiety is a feeling of unease, worry or fear.”

It’s only human to experience anxiety. Some people get rushes of anxiety before an interview, some may get it before attending a gym. Some people may even experience anxiety randomly, which can also be linked to anxiety disorder. It’s important to deal with your anxiety as opposed to letting it fester.

How does it affect health and fitness?

With anxiety comes a lot of physical health issues. From fatigue to headaches, to panic attacks - there are many negative results of anxiety that cause. Some of these things would further prevent someone from living out their healthy lifestyle. It’s hard to maintain a healthy and well-balanced life if your mind is constantly telling you the opposite.

With that being said, here are 5 tips to try and deal with your anxiety:

  1. Relaxation

Relaxation is one of the most important steps for dealing with anxious thoughts. When you’re constantly busy, your head is most likely always full. It’s important to sit back every once in a while, take deep breaths and give yourself a well-deserved break. Whether this is meditation, burning some candles and taking a bath, or watching TV; find a way of relaxing that suits you best. Reserve that time for yourself in your busy schedule.

  1. Limit Alcohol And Caffeine

This one may seem pretty obvious but a lot of people don’t realise that these two things can cause huge spikes in anxiety. Caffeine is a huge part of a lot of people’s day-to-day life. Large amounts of caffeine are used in your coffees, teas, and energy drinks - so it’s important to monitor and limit your caffeine intake in order to decrease your anxiousness.

  1. Balanced Diets

This tip goes hand in hand with a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a balanced diet has been shown to help reduce not only anxiety but other disorders such as depression.

  1. Exercise Daily

Exercising is key to not only sustaining a healthy body but also a healthy mind. Not only does exercise release “feel-good” endorphins, but will also allow your body to sleep easier. Having a planned workout routine can possibly allow structure in your day-to-day life, which could prevent certain forms of stress-related anxiety.
